Agave ripens slowly, taking about 8 years. Then the Patron hemadors (agave farmers) locate and, with a skill that is passed down from generation to generation, find the agave with the right sugar content. Using a sharp, specialized tool called a coa, they slowly uncover the heart of the plant, the piña. The piñas are then baked in a small brick oven to ensure they are baked evenly, and crushed using the traditional method, under two 2-ton tahuna stones each, or using the more modern method of a roller press. The final blend is left to ferment for 3 days, distilled and aged if necessary in hand-made barrels. The tequila is the crowning glory of the Patron estate, where the bottle is also made by carefully selected glass artists. At every stage, the by-products are reused. Patron Silver is the ultimate ultra-premium white distillate. Only 100% blue agave, considered the highest quality in the world, is used to produce the tequila.
